I have always been fascinated by the way people communicate with each other within all types of relationships, personal or professional and everywhere in between. I think the fascination began nearly 10 years ago when I took a class on Family Therapy which focused primarily on family dynamics and the way family members communicate with each other.

The way we communicate is very much a learned behavior. We learn our communication methods from the environments in which we are raised. Depending on the examples we have to follow during our malleable years, we become either very good…

A girl walked into another bar. A different bar from the last time. This time she walked in alone. Because she was invited there. A few weeks had passed and there was simply silence with regard to the guy she met in the bar on that random Wednesday night.

Now on a random Monday night, as she was lying on her couch watching sentimental romance movies, contentedly enjoying the peace and bliss of her own quiet solitude, she received an unexpected text message from an unidentifiable phone number that simply stated, “I’m in town. …

You know that old philosophy that people come into your life for a reason?

Everyone has a purpose to serve within each encounter and each relationship. What that purpose is will differ with each individual dynamic and each separate event. Some people will push you. Some will challenge you. Some will question you. Some will teach you. Some will frustrate the hell out of you. Some will bring you pleasure. Some will bring you pain. Some will enrich you. Some will empower you. Some will feed your intellect. Some will fuel your soul. Some will hate you…

We have just hit the three month mark since we were ordered to shelter in place and quarantine ourselves at home. Many people struggled with this forced seclusion and being locked down from the world as their daily routines were abruptly interrupted. Others, like myself, really sort of welcomed the excuse to stay at home.

People who are affected by and live with mental illness have been a population of great concern during the current pandemic. Mentally healthy people have struggled with processing their emotions during this time. …

I feel like no one is listening. I feel like everyone just wants their own voice to be heard. I feel like we are all just screaming at each other. And the result is completely ineffective communication. How can we possibly view an issue from all angles and make appropriate considerations that will result in successful changes if we are so unwilling to even hear what anyone else has to say?

Changes happen on a million different levels. From within ourselves which is then filtered down to our children and extended out to our personal networks. Change…

I posed this question to myself 15 years ago:

Have you found the meaning and purpose of life?

I wrote the answer in a journal which I recently discovered. It’s funny how my views haven’t changed all that much over the last decade and a half.

For me, the meaning and purpose of life is this…

It is the conquest, the journey, the rediscovery of yourself, the finding of your inner child, learning your soul.

The end of life really has no meaning or purpose because there really is no ending. We continue on, the journey continues…

I feel like someone stole my rose colored glasses. Ripped them right off my face, threw to them ground, and stomped on them until they were nothing but a pile of shattered plastic. But I think I probably deserved it. I have been hiding behind those things for my entire life. Refusing to acknowledge what my fancy lenses were concealing. I suppose it is time to stop hiding and start educating myself on the injustices in our world today.

My friend Debbie recently wrote in a post on a similar topic,

“In my bubble, I love people…

Never has there been a better time to wax philosophical about the coming of the end of the world than during an international health crisis that has forced the entire human population into isolation and seclusion. When said humans refused to heed government issued suggestions on social distancing, said governments began implementing official orders deeming certain persons “essential” and others “nonessential”.

Unless performing life sustaining taks, all nonessential humans are to remain inside their homes until further notice. Failure to obey the newly constructed regulations could result in fines and public reprimand. That, my friends, is some…

I have spent a lot of time over the past few days in quiet contemplation about all the things going on in the world right now. The extensive effects of the coronavirus have impacted the entire human species. As it is forcing the implementation of complete social distancing, I am trying to embrace it with a passive enthusiasm as I consider it an opportunity to reset my life and focus on developing healthier habits. …

On Death

From the moment we are conceived, we are immediately destined to die. Granted we are not given a specified timeline, but death is coming one way or another at some point in the future. It can’t be avoided. We might be able to extend our time here. Maybe. But I am not even sure of that possibility. Even if we can extend it, the duration of our life still has a limit.

This is a harsh matter of the reality of the human experience. Yet we take every step necessary to avoid the outcome. It is sort…
