On a Midlife Soapbox
I am seriously on a soapbox lately with my rantings about rules. I mean, I guess I understand the purpose of rules as guidelines to follow because we humans are quite the unruly bunch. But just like grammar, once you know and understand the rules, you are permitted to break them for the sake of creativity. I remember being taught that in a high school creative writing class. So shouldn’t the same apply to all of the rules?
The Rules About Underwear
Underwear rules! Ha. We seriously have created rules for every damn thing in life. We are expected to wear underwear. All the time. Now don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the comfort and protection offered by a nice of pair of cotton panties. But just because I prefer to wear underwear beneath my clothes, does that mean that everyone should share my preference? Most definitely not.
In fact, my kids are most adamant about not wearing underwear. They hate them. And given the choice, they would probably never wear them. However, I don’t give them the choice. In certain circumstances, like school, I make them wear underwear. But why? They have clothes on. They…
