Am I Mad? (How I Came to Share My Nude Photographs)

If you had told me two years ago that I would be taking nude photographs of myself, I would have responded with a very emphatic, “Are you mad? That will never happen.”

Well, one thing that I have learned is that we should never say never for that always ends with us proving ourselves to be hypocrites. Not only have I been taking lots of nude photos recently, but I have actually been enjoying it, too. And now I have gone and shared the images publicly. Right here on Medium. Am I mad?

Many have called me crazy. But there is a purpose behind my madness. I want to show you that there is no shame in our bodies. We should be celebrating them and appreciating them in their most natural form. We should also acknowledge the fact that we, as humans, are sexual beings right at our very instinctual cores.

These two things, nudity and sexuality, are the most basic parts of the human condition. Yet we are trained from very early on that both are things to cause us shame.

If you are to embrace your own nudity and your sexuality, well, you had better be discrete about it. And never, ever talk about it. For you may make someone uncomfortable. And by someone, I mean most people, since we have all been conditioned in the same way by the same strange…
