Ask the person next to you if they are religious and you will likely receive any variety of answers from devout to spiritual to not religious at all. Next, ask them to define religion. You will most likely be met with a blank stare. Religion, the idea, the concept, the practice, the belief, is very difficult to define and sum up into a succint and coherent explanation. But why?

Because it is so personal yet so vague. It evolves within each of us just as it has evolved through time amongst tribes and communities. Think about your religious beliefs from childhood compared to your beliefs now. Are they the same? Do they even resemble each other?

Religion is a method by which human beings attempt to find answers and explanations to things that we are unable to comprehend. Clearly, there is a power greater than us that has created this universe. There is too much chaos working in perfect harmony for any of it to be just a mishap of chance. Something great and powerful is at work among us, within us, and around us. We tend to call these beliefs and explanations religion.

With an estimated tens of thousands of religions worldwide, it makes one wonder is any one of these belief systems more correct than any other? And who is to make that decision on accuracy anyway? Which leads me to my initial question, “Does God care what we call her?”
