Never Too Old to Learn New Things

I have long been that girl who would much rather have a man do certain things for me than do them for myself. Like changing a tire, mowing the grass, shoveling the snow, building and repairing things, setting up a campsite.

For some reason, it took getting a bit older to realize how ridiculous and kind of lazy I was in that way of thinking.

Playing the helpless female no longer serves me in any capacity. Self-reliance is much more useful. So now, at 45 years old, I am starting to do more things on my own that require me to learn new things that I never took the the time to learn before.

Of course, I have known how to mow the lawn and remove snow since my youth, I just chose to sit around and look pretty rather than do it myself. Shame on me.

Recently, I attended a music festival by myself that required me to learn how to set up my own camp. Otherwise, I would have to sleep in my car. And that’s not really all that comfortable. So I took the time to be taught. It was pretty liberating. And when my tent was flooded by torrential rains, I took it in stride and slept in my car anyway. But at least I know how to set up a tent.
