This story is in response to a prompt by fellow female writer, Elle Beau, who inspires me frequently with her thoughts and opinions on life as a woman. Because I admire her work and I respect her ideals, I didn’t want to let this opportunity pass by me without formulating my own response.

For more details on the writing prompt, please see Elle’s article, Writing Prompt For Women: What Does The World Tell You About Who And How To Be?

I saw this video circulating around Facebook last week and I was absolutely compelled to view it. It is a very emotional statement about the contradictory nature of the messages women receive through societal input. In its contradiction, it leaves many women feeling inadequate and less than worthy in a world that has been predominantly directed by a patriarchal system. A system that not only makes the rules, but it will change the rules as soon as someone finds a way to challenge them. The structure of our civilization has essentially set up women to be viewed as the weaker gender and it is seemingly taking generation after generation to slowly chip away at this standard and amend it.
